In an attempt to interview Joseph Stalin in 1933, Welsh journalist Gareth Jones witnesses the horror of the Russian famine and discovers its coverup by the Soviets. Despite extreme resistance, Jones exposes the truth about Stalin's cruel, failed policies in the West, utimately inspiring George Orwell's novel "Animal Farm."
