Unable to live alone, widower Amadeus reluctantly moves in with his son, Nick and Nick’s wife, Sarah —a couple who are dealing with problems of their own—and their bright 10-year-old daughter, Tilda, outside of London. There, despite the disruption and chaos that ensues when Amadeus becomes part of the already tense household, he and his granddaughter develop a special bond. Tilda’s patience and affection for her grandfather become his strongest link to life and the person he used to be. When Amadeus expresses a deep desire to revisit the places of his fondest remaining memories, Tilda makes a bold decision. Giving her parents the slip, she accompanies him on an unpredictable road trip to Venice, Italy, that will transform not only their lives but the entire family.
