During the Cold War in rural Poland, in 1949, folk musician Wiktor meets an enigmatic singer named Zula. These two people from different backgrounds with incompatible temperaments fall passionately in love and embark on an almost impossible romance, as they journey from Poland to Berlin, Paris and Yugoslavia.
