Where is Kyra?

Kyra is a woman whose life is falling apart. She struggled to find work after her divorce and returned home to New York. She was living with and caring for her disabled, elderly mother, and sharing her disability checks. When her mother dies, a clerical error prevents the death from being recorded, so Kyra keeps cashing the checks as she continues to look for a job. She lives in virtual invisibility except to another desperate person, Doug, and the two find some comfort in seeing each other. But the deception involved with cashing her mother’s checks may soon be uncovered, adding to Kyra's increasingly fragile state.
