Platoon

A rookie soldier struggles under the unbearable conditions of a horrible war: bugs, drugs, death, jungle rot, and hopelessness. But as he observes the differing style and attitudes of two of his commanders - one violent and one Zen-like - he comes to see the deeper conflict within the war: one of conscience.
