The Ploushare Tortoise Of Madagascar

Documentary52 d

The angonoka turtle, called the "ploughshare turtle" by the Madagascans, is an extremely elegant turtle with a golden shell with large armor. They can live for more than 100 years and are only found in the wild off the southeast coast of Africa, in Madagascar. Reptile collectors from around the world are desperate to get their hands on them. Asians' interest, however, is limited to the shell, which is ground into powder and considered by many to be an aphrodisiac. Baly Bay National Park in Madagascar is the last natural refuge for the plowshare turtle.
